Robin Kaye, Illinois, Shooting – The entertainment world and the community at large are mourning the devastating loss of Robin Kaye, a longtime music supervisor for American Idol, and her husband, musician Thomas Deluca. The couple was found dead inside their Encino, Los Angeles home, the victims of what police have described as a double homicide that began as a burglary. Their tragic deaths have shocked fans, neighbors, and industry colleagues alike.
On July 10, 22-year-old suspect Raymond Boodarian allegedly entered the couple’s home during what authorities believe was a burglary. Investigators noted that the door appeared to have been left unlocked, allowing the suspect access without forcing entry. Prior to the incident, neighbors had reported suspicious activity, including someone hopping the fence. Police responded to those calls, but finding no visible signs of forced entry or disturbance, officers did not enter the residence.
Later that evening, Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca returned home while the intruder was still inside. A confrontation ensued, during which Boodarian allegedly opened fire. Both Kaye and Deluca were shot multiple times. According to death certificates, Deluca succumbed to his wounds almost immediately, while Kaye survived for several minutes longer before passing away.
Despite earlier police responses to reports of a burglary, the absence of visible entry damage or crime scene evidence led officers to leave without further action. The tragedy remained undiscovered for days. On July 14, concerned family members requested a welfare check after not hearing from the couple. It was only then that police forced entry into the home and made the harrowing discovery of their bodies.
Following an intensive investigation, authorities arrested Raymond Boodarian around July 15. He has since been charged with two counts of murder and one count of first-degree residential burglary. The charges include special circumstances such as multiple murders and committing murder during a burglary. If convicted, these circumstances carry the most severe penalties under California law.
The violent deaths of Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca have left an immeasurable void in both their personal and professional circles. Robin Kaye had been a vital member of the American Idol team since 2009, helping shape the soundtracks that defined the careers of countless contestants. She also worked on a wide array of other music and television projects, earning deep respect in the entertainment industry. Her husband, Thomas Deluca, pursued a career in music as well, releasing albums and contributing as a songwriter.
Beyond their individual legacies, the tragedy raises troubling questions about home security, police response protocols, and the vulnerability of individuals in their own residences. For many, the loss is not only a personal heartbreak but also a reminder of how fragile a sense of safety can be.
