Kraków, Poland – September 14, 2025: Operations at Kraków John Paul II International Airport (KRK) were suspended for several hours after a Boeing 737-800, operated by AirExplore on behalf of Polish charter airline Enter Air, overran the runway during heavy rainfall earlier today. The flight, E47030, was returning holidaymakers from Antalya, Turkey.
The incident occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. local time when the aircraft landed on Runway 25. Due to adverse weather conditions, the plane failed to stop fully on the paved surface and ended up in an unpaved grassy area adjacent to the runway. Emergency responders arrived promptly, ensuring that all passengers and crew disembarked safely. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
Enter Air confirmed that the aircraft, registered OM-FEX, is leased from Slovak charter company AirExplore. The airline stated that upcoming flights on the Antalya–Kraków route will continue using Enter Air’s own fleet and reiterated that passenger safety remains the company’s top priority.
Authorities immediately suspended all flight operations at KRK, with Eurocontrol reporting that arrivals and departures will remain unavailable until at least 20:00 UTC. The closure allows investigators to assess the aircraft’s position, inspect the runway, and begin analyzing factors contributing to the incident. Heavy rainfall is believed to have played a key role, though officials have not ruled out additional factors such as runway surface conditions, braking performance, or pilot decision-making.
The disruption has caused significant travel delays. Several inbound flights were diverted to airports in Katowice and Warsaw, while many outbound flights faced cancellations or delays. Passengers have been urged to consult their airlines for updated information as recovery operations continue and investigations proceed.
A Kraków Airport spokesperson emphasized the airport’s commitment to safety:
“While this incident has understandably caused disruption to travel, the most important outcome is that all passengers and crew are safe. We are cooperating fully with aviation authorities and investigators to determine the circumstances surrounding the runway excursion.”
Runway excursions, though relatively rare, are among the most common landing-related incidents globally. Aviation experts note that wet or contaminated runways, reduced visibility, and challenging braking conditions create significant risks during landing.
