Liam King Randolph County, NC Death – The search for 7-year-old Liam Alexander King of Randolph County, North Carolina, ended in heartbreaking tragedy on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. After more than two days of relentless searching, authorities confirmed that Liam’s body was discovered in a pond near Forest Hills Drive in Asheboro—the same area where he was last seen.
Liam, described by family as a sweet and gentle child, was non-verbal and lived with cognitive impairments, which made him especially vulnerable after he disappeared. He had last been seen on Sunday morning walking away from a relative’s home, sparking an urgent search effort that quickly grew into one of the largest operations Randolph County has experienced in recent years.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office led the search, coordinating with multiple agencies, including the Asheboro Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, and the Winston-Salem Fire Department. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also provided resources and personnel to assist.
Efforts to locate Liam were exhaustive and included helicopters, drones, K-9 tracking units, mounted patrols, water rescue specialists, and dozens of ground search teams combing through woods, fields, and waterways. Authorities even drained and searched multiple ponds in the area. Sadly, it was in one of these ponds, less than a quarter-acre in size, that Liam was ultimately recovered on Tuesday morning.
Randolph County Sheriff Gregory Seabolt spoke with deep emotion about the devastating outcome. “We are heartbroken to report that Liam has been found deceased. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this unimaginable time. We also want to extend our gratitude to the countless law enforcement officers, firefighters, rescue workers, and community volunteers who never stopped searching and gave everything they had in hopes of bringing Liam home safely.”
Investigators have stated that no foul play is suspected in Liam’s death, though the case remains under active investigation. The pond where his body was found was located near the spot he was last seen, suggesting that he may have wandered toward the water after leaving the relative’s home.
The community has been deeply shaken by the tragedy. In Asheboro and throughout Randolph County, residents lit candles and shared tributes online for Liam, remembering him as a bright light taken far too soon. Vigils and prayer gatherings are being planned to support his grieving family.
The massive search effort highlighted the extraordinary commitment of law enforcement and local citizens alike. From the moment Liam was reported missing, volunteers came forward to hand out flyers, join search teams, and provide meals and support for first responders. Helicopters flew overhead for hours, while K-9 units tirelessly searched through wooded areas and fields. Every resource possible was deployed in hopes of finding Liam alive.
While the search ended in tragedy, the outpouring of love and support for Liam’s family has underscored the strength of the Randolph County community.
🕯 Rest in peace, Liam Alexander King.
